
The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe recognizes Katsitsatekanoniahkwa Destiny Lazore, a tribal member and accomplished senior at Syracuse University (SU), for being awarded the prestigious Udall Scholarship in the field of Tribal Public Policy. The Udall Foundation awards scholarships, fellowships, and internships for studies in fields related to the environment, and to Native Americans and Alaska Natives in fields related to healthcare and tribal public policy. Lazore is one of only 55 students selected as a Udall Scholar from nationwide competition.
Lazore is a senior majoring in Political Science with a minor in Native American studies in the Communication and Rhetorical Studies program in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, College of Arts and Sciences. She has remained an active member of the 'Cuse campus by taking advantage of opportunities to conduct research in Japan, building the Bird Libraries database of Indigenous authors, while staying involved with Indigenous Students at Syracuse (ISAS) student organization and serving as director of Indigenous Affairs for SU's Student Association. After graduation, she hopes to pursue a master's degree in education leadership studies at Hawaii Pacific University and return to Akwesasne to strengthen Kanien'keha language efforts.
