Land Claim Update

The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council provides an update on the progress of the Akwesasne Mohawk Land Claim.

On Ohiarí:ha/June 3, 2026, Tribal Council Chief Conners, Chief Thompson, and Chief Garrow attended the U.S. Senate bill hearing in Washington, D.C. where bill S.3475 resolving the Akwesasne Mohawk Land Claim was presented, along with five other bills, to the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs. The committee had the opportunity to clarify information relating to each bill, prior to accepting or ratifying.

The Tribe is pleased that the Akwesasne Mohawk Land Claim has reached another milestone in the legislative process, closer to bringing finality to over 40 years of concerted effort to return ancestral Mohawk lands and will continue to provide timely and transparent updates as the bill progresses.
