In 2014, a Community Liaison position with the National Grid was created by Tribal Council to support community members with their energy bills. While Stacy is not a Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe employee or National Grid, her goal is to assist community members that are National Grid customers with their accounts. She provides resources for customers that need assistance and give options to resolve issues they may be experiencing.
One of the most common concerns Stacy hears from community members is the high cost of energy.
Below are simple ways she suggests for families to reduce energy use at home:
- Unplug appliances and electronics when not in use
- Keep your thermostat at a steady temperature
- Use smart power strips to help control electricity use
- Visit nationalgrid.com for more energy saving tips
Stacy's tip if you're considering the switch to a third-party energy supplier: National Grid sells energy supply at cost and makes profit on delivery charges. Community members should use caution when considering third-party energy suppliers. They will save you money in the first few months, but I have seen their rates triple, even quadruple, costing you more in the long-term.
