Akwesasne, NY - The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Agriculture Program’s Wally Ransom is offering a unique opportunity to local students in grades 9 to 11, with a summer training program that is teaching the process and practices involved with producing organic eggs. The construction of the chicken coops is now underway at the student’s homes in anticipation of each receiving 100 chickens. Students will also be given all the feed and materials necessary for maintaining them. When the chickens begin laying eggs in October, they will be sold locally and the student will receive payment based on their flock’s production.
