It is with profound sadness that the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police announce the sudden passing of our former Chief of Police, Andrew Thomas, on November 1, 2026.
Chief Thomas was more than a leader of this department; he was a valued member of our police family who dedicated nearly two decades of his life to serving the Saint Regis Mohawk community. He began his career with the department in June 1995 as a Patrol Officer, working his way through the ranks before becoming Chief of Police in 2001. He continued serving the department through 2014.
Throughout his years of service, Chief Thomas was part of the department's growth and history. His dedication, leadership, and contributions helped shape the department into what it is today. For those who had the privilege of working alongside him, his passing is not only the loss of a former Chief, but the loss of a colleague and friend.
On behalf of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched. We recognize and are grateful for the years he devoted to this department and to the community.
Andrew, thank you for your years of service and for being part of our department's story. You will be remembered, and you will be missed.
Rest in peace, Chief Thomas.
