SRMT Affirms Commitment to Transparency and Accountability

AKWESASNE – (Kenténha/October 17, 2025) The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe (SRMT) is sharing this message with the community to reaffirm our shared priorities and articulate our continued support for the children, parents, and families connected to the Early Learning Center (ELC). Through our consultations with the parents, Tribal Council is expressing our unwavering support for those affected - both directly and indirectly - and acknowledges and respects the courage and strength it takes to continue to advocate for their children while holding us accountable.

We want to be clear that the safety of our children is paramount. Those we entrust with their care have a sacred responsibility. When that trust is broken, accountability and corrective actions must follow. We will not allow the conversation to shift away from what truly matters: the safety and protection of our children.

We are actively working with relevant authorities and community partners to address all concerns with due diligence. We are committed to providing updates first to families, and then to the larger community, on progress on corrective actions and facilities and systems improvement.

We will also make available culturally-grounded healing resources, trauma-informed supports, and safe spaces for further dialogue, understanding, and healing. We ask that the community come together in solidarity to honor the resilience of our families, with compassion, love, and support.

As we stand together, we ask for unity, compassion, and collective healing.
