AKWESASNE – (Tsiothóhrha/December 16, 2025) The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council is providing an update on the allegation of mistreatment of a child with special needs within the Salmon River Central School District (SRCSD). Tribal Council has been engaged in communications with SRCSD and responding to requests for information from agencies investigating the allegation.
Tribal Council is reminding the community that it is important that the investigative process is allowed to run its course without undue influence or interference; therefore, to ensure a proper investigation, Tribal Council is limited in what can be shared with the community at this time.
Tribal Council is also reminding the community that the SRMT Education Department is not an oversight body of the SRCSD; therefore, any communication regarding this matter should be directed to the SRCSD and/or the Tribal Police Department.
Last, Tribal Council recognizes that these events can evoke strong emotions. We are requesting cooperation from community members to refrain from aggressive or threatening communications or behavior toward staff and students.
