AKWESASNE-(Tsiothóhrha/December 3, 2025) On November 4, 2025, The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council visited the newly renovated Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance (AMA) substation, located next to the Saint Regis Mohawk Health Clinic. This new location provides over 4,000 square feet of space, enough to easily house 4 ambulances, and additional space for a training room, kitchenette, break room, showers, and storage for supplies. Ambulances are rotated to ensure in-service units are well-maintained and AMA’s goal is to have two Advanced Life Support (ALS) crews on duty every day.
Since its founding in 1981, the Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance Service has provided emergency medical services to both the northern and southern regions of the territory. AMA is well-known and respected in the region, having some of the best trained staff in the region. Tribal Council expressed their pride in the AMA and their resilience through challenging times, “We are fortunate to have AMA serving the community and we appreciate everything you do,” said Tribal Council, continuing “Emergency services and the wellbeing of our community is our first priority.” AMA has made great strides in recruiting and retaining highly trained emergency medical professionals and in collaboration with Clarkson University, offers Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification as part of improving competencies and overall quality improvement.
Tribal Council extends a Niawenkó:wa to the incredible team at AMA for the high standard of care provided to the Akwesasne community.
