AKWESASNE – (Onerahtó:kha/April 21, 2026) The Tribal Ethics Commission is notifying membership of the results of an ethics complaint filed against Sub-Chief Derrick King. The Ethics Office Committee held a hearing on April 15, 2026 finding Sub-Chief King in violation of section E1 and E2 of the Ethics Ordinance.
E1. Elected Officials shall not disclose confidential materials presented, considered, or discussed in executive or closed session without the approval of all parties involved, except where authorized under a tribal open records law.
E2. No elected official shall use or disclose confidential information gained in the course or by reason on their official position or activities to further their own economic or personal interest or that of anyone else.
As a result, Sub-Chief King has been suspended from office as of April 21, 2026 at 2 p.m. for a period of up to 6 months, pending the result of a recall election to be announced at a later date. A redacted copy of the decision is accessible to Tribal members on the members’ portal.
