AKWESASNE — (Seskehkó:wa/September 25, 2026) The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council received several requests from Tribal members to amend the Tribal Procedures Act, and second to adopt a banishment law applicable to Tribal members. The Tribal Council passed Tribal Council Resolutions (TCR 2026-38 and TCR 2026-39) calling for a referendum in order to gauge support from eligible voters on these important topics.
Pursuant to the September 17th Community Notice from the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Election Board, regarding a Recall Election and Referendum, the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe announces Tribal Membership meetings regarding the following questions:
“Do you support amending the Tribal Procedures Act as adopted in 2013?”

Three (3) Tribal Membership Referendum Meetings will be hosted in-person at the Teionkwarihwaienawà:kon Community Services Building, located at 850 State Route 37, Akwesasne, and via Zoom, starting promptly at 5 p.m. on:
- Thursday, October 1, 2026
- Wednesday, October 7, 2026
- Wednesday, October 14, 2026
Please register for each virtual meeting at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting dates to avoid delays in joining. Once the Tribal Clerk’s Office reviews and approves member registration, you will receive a link via e-mail from Zoom, please keep on hand to join the meeting with ease. Meeting Expectations: Tribal Technicians will open the meeting with a review of the referendum topic(s), explain the referendum questions, and the potential outcomes if membership votes yes or no. Membership will also have an opportunity to ask questions regarding the referendum topics.
Reminder: The Tribe’s Rules of Personal Conduct will be in effect for these meetings.

To request an absentee ballot, please contact the Tribal Clerk’s Office by 12 p.m. on Friday, October 16th.

Early voting will take place on Wednesday, October 21st and Thursday, October 22nd from 6-8 p.m. at the Ionkwakiohkwaró:ron Tribal Administration Building, with in-home voting happening on Friday, October 23rd. The deadline to request in-home voting with the Tribal Clerk’s Office is by Wednesday, October 21st by 4 p.m.
