I have had the privilege of serving as a clerk with Tribal Court since 2018, beginning at the police station and transitioning through two additional locations before settling at the permanent site in the Teionkwarihwaienawà:kon Community Service building. My career path has provided me with a unique blend of experiences, and I am grateful to be part of a community-centered institution.
I hold an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education and began pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice at SUNY Potsdam before re-entering the workforce. I previously worked with the Tribal Gaming Commission as a Gaming Inspector for five years, a role I found both fulfilling and educational. In addition, I served on the Membership/Residency Board, which was established in early 2000’s, and contributed to its work for two years. This position provided valuable insights into community governance and membership affairs.
In addition to my professional career, I am deeply committed to my community. I married and later divorced, a local man for Raquette and I have three grown children and six grands who bring me immeasurable joy. I was born in Rochester, New York, where my parents met and worked. My father, Butch a retired ironworker with Local 440, and my mother, Diane was employed at a factory before working for the City of Cornwall Police Department for 20 years.
I come from a family with a strong history of service, as my two brothers, one sister and several cousins have all served in the Armed Forces, and I take great pride in their dedication. I have been a member of the American Legion Post 1479 for over 20 years, where I continue to be actively involved in supporting my community.
The work I do with Tribal Court holds personal significance to me, as it connects me to the land, the history of Akwesasne, and the community that has shaped my life. I have always valued the opportunity to serve the people of Akwesasne, and it continues to be a great honor to contribute to this institution. I reside in the Akwesasne community with my life partner, Ronald “Bahata” Phillips.
