Mission: To ensure that those members of the Akwesasne community who are having emotional troubles get the treatment they need to feel better.

Saint Regis Mohawk Mental Health Services provide confidential outpatient mental health services for children and adults. We see people for many different reasons such as depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, relationship problems, trouble at work, school, or home, family conflict, sleeping problems, sexual problems, past and/or present sexual, physical, emotional abuse, eating problems and grief/loss.

Often people need a place to talk about their problems and concerns in private. The services we provide include but are not limited to the following: screenings, individual, family, couples, and play therapy; assessment, including psychiatric evaluation; crisis intervention; medication therapy; case management; parent advocacy; Traditional Mohawk Services; respite and home based mental health services; Coordinated Children’s Services Initiative- wraparound services; mental health consultation for Head Start; and school based mental health services in the Salmon River Central school district.

Each person has their own special needs, and treatment is planned specially to meet those needs. Many people include their own traditional methods of healing as part of their plan.

Additional Projects with Grant Funding

  • The Zero Suicide Initiative Project – The Mental Health Program at Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Health Services has received funding to help improve care for individuals at risk of suicide who are currently using health and behavioral health services. The Zero Suicide Model aims to reduce the risk of suicide for all individuals seen in health care systems. This grant funding ends in 2027, but we are eager to provide sustainable measures to the community in regards to this project. To learn more about this initiative click here
  • Suicide Prevention, Intervention, and Postvention Project – The Mental Health Program at Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Health Services has received funding to promote the use and development of evidence-based and practice-based models with culturally appropriate treatment approaches. This grant funding ends in 2027, but we are able to provide meaningful sustainable measures with funding received to help promote the lives of those in our community. • The Indigenous Wellness Pilot Project – Through the Office of Mental Health (OMH), our program was selected to receive funding for a pilot project. This project provides direct behavioral health supports by incorporating traditional customs and values for Akwesasro:non, ages 24 and younger, and their families. This project has allowed us to provide meaningful support to the youth in Salmon River Central School District as well as surrounding areas. With traditional activities, opportunities for talking circles, and a safe space for students to go – we have found meaningful results in this project. Our project has also been recognized as meaningful by OMH, shown through a continuation of grant funding after the initial funding ended. We are hopeful that this project will continue and may become accessible to other tribal nations.
