Community Members Warned for Power Outages and Basement Flooding

Portions of the Akwesasne community are experiencing some localized electrical/power outages, especially in the Quebec area of the territory. Community members are advised to keep an eye on their basements which may flood due to the recent high amounts of rain and snow. Since the ground remains frozen, the run-off may cause problems in terms of basement flooding. Basement flooding may still occur in areas that are not experiencing electrical/power outages, due to the high volume of water and sump pumps have difficulty in keeping up with incoming water.
