Child Support Enforcement Unit Celebrates Million Dollar Milestone

AKWESASNE — (Onerahtohkó:wa/May 7, 2024) The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Child Support Enforcement Unit (CSEU) celebrates years of dedication marked by one million dollars in collections.

“Our program is honored to be able to celebrate this milestone. The program has grown tremendously since that first year when we collected four hundred dollars for the entire year. Knowing that one hundred percent of the money we collect goes to the families makes our efforts that much more impactful. We look forward to continuing to grow the program and helping as many families and children as possible,” shared CSEU Program Manager April Lauzon.

The CSEU became the first comprehensive Tribal IV-D program in New York State and all of Region II, in April 2014. The CSEU assists in locating persons responsible for child support, establishment of paternity, establishment of court orders for support, enforcement of court orders and modification of child support orders.

“The CSEU is a vital Tribal program that helps aid Akwesasne families with what can be a difficult process. With the support of the hard-working CSEU staff, children and youth in our community have the necessary financial assistance to thrive,” said Tribal Council.

Services are available to any parents or children who are eligible for tribal membership regardless of residency.
