Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe's Cannabis Compliance Office Promotes Licensed & Compliant Entrepreneurs

Feb 12, 2024

AKWESASNE, NY(Enníska/February 12, 2024) The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe's Cannabis Compliance Office reinforces why supporting tribally-licensed entrepreneurs and fostering compliance within the cannabis industry is important. As part of the Adult Use Cannabis Ordinance, the Tribe’s initiative was set in motion to encourage our local entrepreneurs to have a robust regulatory framework that led to the path of a legalized, regulated, and safe cannabis market on territory. As the program expands, our Compliance team has launched ways to make it explicitly clear to consumers who patronize tribally-licensed cannabis retailers by displaying the “Tribally-Licensed” compliance emblem with the retailer's respective license number as you enter the establishment.

The Tribe's website serves as a comprehensive resource for all licensed cannabis stores, providing information about compliance regulations and the importance of supporting tribally licensed businesses. The website serves as a centralized hub for community members to stay informed about the licensed retailers and their contributions to tribal programs.

The following retailers have been diligently reviewed and are currently operating under tribally-licensed status:

To easily identify these licensed retailers, community members are encouraged to look for the Tribally Licensed compliance emblem with the respective license number prominently displayed on the front window or door of each establishment.

Tribal Compliance Officers conduct regular visits to these stores to ensure strict adherence to tribal regulations and work collaboratively with tribally licensed retailers. The Tribe emphasizes that member-owned licensed properties play a crucial role in supporting programs that benefit Tribal community members.

"We hope that community members understand and patronize Tribally licensed businesses," said Anthony Tillman, Cannabis Compliance Manager at the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe's Cannabis Compliance Office. In a statement approved by the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Cannabis Control Board, Anthony announces "By supporting licensed entrepreneurs, you’re supporting a small business that cares about the social and health-related impact of the cannabis regulations that affect our community."

Tribally-licensed cannabis businesses are leading the way as the first legal sellers of cannabis products for adults in New York State. Collaborating with tribal members, the Cannabis Control Board established regulations ensuring the success of these operations and prioritizing community benefits. Licensing fees support and fund essential services, contributing to economic diversification and jobs. The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe holds the distinction of being the first in New York and the United States to establish a tribally-licensed legal framework for adult use cannabis sales where entrepreneurs are the licensees, not the tribal government, reflecting a commitment to economic growth, job creation and our tribal members who own and operate these small businesses.
